Google+ introduces larger cover photos, revamped local reviews and tabs

The first thing Google+ users will notice a prompt to change to their cover images for their profiles. The new profile pages allow for cover photos that are much larger than before. The dimensions are now 2120px by 1192px – we’ll need to update this for our clients Google+ pages. Google claims, this will provide more “room for your selection to shine.”

I’ve also noticed they have also changed the shape of the users’ avatars – they are now circles. This may prove difficult with client’s logos. We’ll need to update client avatars to ensure that they fit within the circle.

Not only that, but all local reviews are now available under the “Reviews” section of your Google+ profile. If you don’t like this, Google does give you the option to hide this new tab.

The “About” tab has also received a completely new design that organises all your information into separate Google Now-like cards. This includes Basic Information, People, Story, Work, Links etc.

Additionally, Google has revamped the hovercards that appear when you hover over a user’s avatar. They are larger and feature your cover photo.

Facebook’s Timeline is also changing!

Less than a week after announcing its redesigned News Feed, Facebook has also started introducing updates to the Timeline. Changes include: moving status updates and posts to the right of the page and placing information from apps on the left. Furthermore, your “about” information gets its own new widget-like place underneath your photo, your name moves a little higher and is overlaid on your Cover Photo.

These changes plan to roll out in a couple of weeks – so keep an eye out!

Twitter to release Music Discovery App

Twitter is planning to release a standalone music app for iOS called Twitter Music as soon as the end of this month. I’m not sure how we could use this for our current clients but perhaps in the future this could be an interesting way to share content.  Find out more from Mashable, here.
